(Actually 5 delights from LAST week…)
Hello my fellow Babblers!
One thing I really missed about blogging was thinking about all the things that I was grateful for or brought me joy each week. I mean, yes, I could have (and should have) just done that anyway blog or no blog, but I didn’t. Shocker, right? Me, not keeping up with a healthy habit? Madness!
Anyway, I’m going to start back up my #ThankfulThursdays, starting with some delights from last week (I’m a week behind schedule, another not-so-shocking-shocker):
- My little garden is growing and my perennials are blooming! Not all my perennials came back, in fact, most of them decided to stay buried in the dirt, for which I can’t blame them. It’s a rough world out there. However, a few brave sprouts have popped up and shouldered the burden of life!

I’ve decided to plant tomatoes, peppers, onions, and herbs this year (plus as you can see in my garden, there’s lots of weeds and tomato plants popping back up from last year, so I need to do some weeding!).
I am most excited about seeing the first blooms on the peony bushes. They were transplanted from my parent’s farm and include descendants from each of my grandparents’ farms and two of my great grandparents’ farms. We transplanted them September 2021 and they haven’t bloomed until now. The peony bushes these came from were in the backdrop of many of my wedding photos on my parents’ farm and they mean a lot to me!
2. One of my puppo-s, Louie, tore his ACL and had surgery (that is not the delight, obviously!) His surgery went well and he is a couple weeks into his 8 week recovery period. He was devastated not to go on walks with his brother, Louie, so we got a collapsible wagon and strapped him in so he could still enjoy the fresh air. Being able to still go on walks as a family was the joy (except he still kept trying to escape to chase after Henry). It’s a process.

3. I got a hair cut! My hair hasn’t been this short since my college graduation, friends. It’s not even that short, but I got at least seven inches taken off. I was not one of those people who was brave or talented enough to put a scissors near my head during the pandemic, so I went a solid two years without getting my hair cut. I finally got started doing them regularly again last spring.

4. I went to a Princess Diaries themed bachelorette party where I got to where a plastic poncho and throw darts at paint-filled balloons. Honestly, what more could you ask out of life? I also wore a romper that day for the first time in my life and didn’t hate the feeling. As I was saying to the people there, I am always at least 2 years behind on fashion trends because I get 98% of my clothes used and am also super behind on a lot of pop culture. But I don’t care. For instance, I’m going to be riding the pandemic grandmillenial/cottagecore wave for the rest of my lift even though it’s on the outs, because it makes me feel cozy and like when I leave my house, bunnies are going to be waiting at my door with daisies in their mouths and the birds are going to tie a ribbon in my hair each morning. Don’t take that away from me! Anyway, moving on…

5. Also, the biggest thing of all, I cleaned my basement! You guys, I spent DAYS doing this. I have a crawl space in my house that is the size of a family room and it was packed. I am going to be going through this more in depth in another post, because I did (and am actually still working on) a deep decluttering of my house where we go rid of three truckloads of stuff.

Here is one picture of the ‘after,’ though I’m sorry to say I don’t have a ‘before.’ Just picture piles of totes and garbage bags stacked higher than the TV in all directions. The crawl space is up behind those curtains, so you can’t actually see it in this picture. My basement is an unfinished space that drives me crazy, but at least it is CLEAN now.
All right, that’s all for now!
